A native Washingtonian, April found her passion for dance in grade school through a local theater program and a church-based dance troupe. Later choosing dance for a career, April studied dance professionally at Towson University, training under Linda-Denise Fisher, Stephanie Powell, and award-winning choreographers Jayne Bernasconi and Vincent Thomas. April specializes in modern dance techniques and has extensive skill in ballet, contemporary, lyrical, hip hop and jazz dance forms. She was also a professional dancer and member of the highly-acclaimed Full Circle Dance Company under the direction of Donna Jacobs in Baltimore for more than a decade, developing a specialty in modern dance which inspired her plans to bring a modern dance performance company to the DMV area.
A seasoned teacher for the last 17 years, April has taught dance to students of all ages at schools throughout the region, including at all locations of Ballet Petite, The Washington School of Ballet, The James School of Dance, Community College of Baltimore County, Local Motion Studio and Dance Dynamix. In addition, April worked with Ballet Petite’s Performance Company and served as the Artistic Director for the Performance Company’s 2016 Nutcracker and 2017 Swan Lake Production.
It has always been April’s dream to lead a dance studio that trains and supports the development of emerging dancers of all ages in an inspiring environment, and to help others discover the joy of creative arts through dance. Through Destiny Dance, she hopes dance enriches the lives of students from the youngest to the oldest for a lifetime.
